can only get better brick mors stykr Brick glared at the textbook, as if he could somehow intimidate the annoying object into surrendering all of its information to him. If it wasn't for the whole "reading" thing, Brick thought he might actually enjoy school. Learning curses and hexes was fun, even if some were a bit useless, and seeing all of those animals in Care of Magical Creatures was pretty amazing. But, this reading stuff? Nah, that was way too boring.
Exactly how was reading about Transfiguration gonna help him actually do it anyway? It wasn't like writing a 12 inch essay on turning pots into pigeons was going to somehow give him the ability to do it. Theory was just pointless, things should be done, not thought about.
With that thought he shut his textbook. He felt almost like he'd somehow defeated it. Even if he ended up with a Troll grade, it would still be better than having to figure out all those words and what the hell they meant. He'd never been a very strong reader, and it didn't look like that was going to change anytime soon. Now that he was "finished" with his homework, looked up and around the Common Room. He was actually kind of eager to move onto something else. After all, he just got through the worst part of his day. Things could only get better at this point.

__________________________________________________ the devil tips his hat to me > ALL BECAUSE I'M EVIL < __________________________________________________ There was no other way to put it. Nemesis Riddle was bored. She lay on her bed in the sixth year Slytherin girls dormitory, one arm resting over her eyes and the other lazily flicking her wand about in the air. Her mind mumbled a bunch of hexes and curses as she waved her wand, and she didn't know if the spells were actually doing anything as she cast them, and honestly she didn't really care. She was just so bored. How could a person ever be this bored? She'd never known anyone to be this bored! In fact, she'd never been ths bored. She was always out doing something, whether it be hanging out with one of her two best friends, Reagan Greyback or Skylar Song, or with her childhood friend and the one boy she truly liked, Brick Stykr, but she hadn't seem any of them today, and if she never saw them, she was holding a meeting with the Dark Knights, but she'd held a meeting yesterday. It would be so very boring to hold another again.
She restlessly threw her wand down onto her beds side table and dropped her arm away from her face. As she stared up at the ceiling, Nemesis found that she'd created a large hole. It was a curious hole, marked in the shape of a Dark Mark. But that was not what was curious about it. It was the fact that the hole led up into a dark room that looked like an attic. An attic above Slytherin dungeons? How strange. How curious. She was definitely going to explore them one day... perhaps today? But first she was going to find a friend or minion to bring along. Perhaps someone was sulking around in the common room? Perhaps one of her best friends had come back from where ever they'd been? She decided to run down and take a look, just in case. If no one was there though, then she'd just have to explore it on her on. She could protect herself if it held anything dangerous. She was the Dark Lord's daughter, after all.
Quickly, she covered up the hole with a few rusted gold pins and an old wanted poster of her mother, Bellatrix Lestrange, and then ran down into the common room of the Slytherin dungeons. She slowed to a walk as she came to the end of the stone spiral stairs that led up into girls dormitories and looked the common room over three times. She didn't see anyone around, not even seeing the blonde figure reading a school text book, and was about to turn around and go back up to her dormitory, but then there was a slam. She spun around to see Brick. Cursing herself for being so blind, she went over to him. She stood unnoticed behind him for a few minutes, wondering what he'd been looking up and studying, before she decided to speak. "Hey, Striker," she said, with a dazzling smile. It was so easy to flirt with him because he'd always been so clueless when someone liked him. "What are you reading?" Small talk first, proposal later.

Brick was a bit disappointed when he didn't see anyone around the Common Room. Everyone was out doing something interesting, he supposed. He wondered if he should go try to find one of the other Slytherins and help them in whatever fun things they were doing. Then again, would he even know where to start looking? He was busy trying to figure out the most likely place to find one of his fellow snakes, that he honestly didn't see or hear the soft footsteps coming up behind him. He was hardly ever unaware of his surroundings, so when his Queen's voice broke through his thoughts he literally jumped a bit. It was a bit graceless, and he berated himself for being careless.
At least his next motion was a bit more smooth. He stood gracefully and turned to face her. It was a well practiced motion, he always stood when she entered the room, it was proper form, and even though he'd known Nemesis for years, since they were kids even, he'd never been one to break it.
"My Lady." Brick said, unable to keep the grin off of his face. It wasn't exactly a knightly expression, but he couldn't help but be happy to see her. She was the Dark Lord's daughter, he knew from being the son of a Death Eater, and the Leader of the Dark Knights, an organization he was only too happy to join once he'd discovered it, in both of those ways she was his Queen and Mistress, and since he was old enough to know what those words meant he'd been dedicated to them. But, even more than that, he was very close to Nemesis herself.
His grin faltered for a brief moment when she mentioned his reading. She was a big reader, he knew, but she should know by now that he was practically hopeless at it. Words just were not all that exciting. "Nothing, anymore." He said, looking down at the Transfiguration book. It didn't take long for his grin to return however, and his brown eyes looked back into his Lady's blue ones. "Y'know, I think reading should have been kept with the nobility, you can really use all of this. 'Should have never dripped down to the rest of us - even my kind. Could you imagine a knight trying to read about how to fight of a dragon? By the time he got to 'Step One: Raise Your Shield' he'd be smolderin'." He said animatedly.

__________________________________________________ the devil tips his hat to me > ALL BECAUSE I'M EVIL < __________________________________________________ Nemesis had to stiffle a giggle when Brick jumped slightly. She didn't want to embarass him by laughing at him, and after all, she couldn't laugh at one of her best friends. They'd been best friends ever since they were little kids, him always being some sort of protector towards her, she always calling him her black knight, her knight is shining armor. She still called him that though; not to his face, of course, but in her mind, and she knew that he called her his Queen. Of course, she was his Queen, in a way, being the Dark Lord's daughter and all, but she wished there was no more to it than that. She wanted them to be more than best friends; she wanted him to love her like she loved him.
She watched carefully as he stood up gracefully and turned to her. That was one thing she loved about him. He had manners, manners that would never fade when it came to her. He always stood up when she entered the room, and she liked that. Of course, she expected all followers to do that when she walked into the room, even female followers, but she liked it especially when he did it. Well, of course she did; he was hers, no one elses. If any other girl... or boy... so much as touched him, she'd do what she had to; she'd handle them privately, warn them off him, maybe even hurt them a little, if that was neccessary. Yes, she was possessive, and yes, it was scary, but get over it.
Her gaze switched down to the transfiguration book just when his did. She looked back up after a second or two and caught his eyes, a small smile gracing her features. She loved his eyes; they were a dark brown color, gleaming with mischief. She smirked at his reply, and snickered a little. "Is that how you say you just couldn't be bothered to learn everything in the text book, or you didn't understand it and so you gave up?" She knew him well. He wasn't a reader at all, he didn't have a reading bone in his body. He was too impatient, wanting to get out there and just do it. She was like that, too, though she did like to read a lot. She had many passions and reading was one of them.

"You know me all too well, my Lady." Brick said with a grin and a bow. Of course, she knew everything about him, he wasn't the type to keep too many secrets, and even if he was, she'd be the first to know about them. He knew the rest of the school pretty much thought of him as a lug-head, who only got into Slytherin because the hat had felt sorry for Hufflepuff (Merlin knows he didn't have too many Slytherin traits, except the well-honed ability to hex mudbloods), but his Queen knew him better.
Brick had been loyal to Nemesis since they'd met, years and years ago, in Riddle Manor. He'd made it his responsibility to protect, and bring her whatever she wanted or needed. He knew she appreciated him watching over her, than she did any of her nannies. She used to refer to him as her knight, which pleased him to no end, and even though now they were older and Nemesis had far out grown the need for an over-zealous watch dog like him, he still thought of himself as Lady Riddle's personal knight.
That made his thoughts go back to present time. He wondered what his Queen wished of him. Not that she had never just wanted to hang around with her friends, but she usually had Song and Greyback with her when she was feeling in a social mood. He hadn't seen the other two Knights all afternoon, though, and he'd thought that perhaps Nemesis had been with them. But if she was here, then maybe she had something for him to do? That would be a wonderful change to today's slow pace. "Would you like anything of me, Mistress?" He asked when his head came back up. He could feel the excitement showing on his face, it was really something he had to work on. He never managed to hide his emotions properly.

__________________________________________________ the devil tips his hat to me > ALL BECAUSE I'M EVIL < __________________________________________________ The pretty little smile of innocence didn't slip off her face as she stood there opposite Brick, not even when he bowed (she usually smirked when he did this, because it reminded her that she had power, and a whole lot of it), nor did it falter at his reply. She was going to keep up her act, not that she really needed to when it came to Brick, since he always did things for her without falter nor hesitation, but she felt it was necessary. Why? Don't know. Anyway. "Well, I have known you ever since I was a little kid," she said, and she then walked around the sofa to come and stand next to him. She didn't want to stay separated whilst they talked, she liked to stand in front of the people she spoke to, she liked to see if they stood strong or withered at her approach. It was amusing.
Nemesis was still staring into his eyes when he asked her what she needed of him. She snapped out of her little trance and smirked to herself. I would like it if you kissed me, she thought, but it looks like that's not going to be happening anytime soon. To be honest, she was really getting tired of waiting for him to wake up and smell the coffee, tired of waiting for him to realize that she really, really liked him. He wasn't very good at reading the signs, sure, but did it honestly take that long for one boy to realize what's right in front of him? Either Brick was just acting ignorant because he didn't see her as more than a good friend and a queen, or boys really were just dumb. She voted for the latter, no, hoped for the latter. It was just stupid thinking that a guy wouldn't like her.
"Well, yes, actually, Brick," she said, and folded her arms behind her in a business like way. She briefly wondered whether he knew that she was going to ask him to do something with her or he was just asking because he was bored without something to do. "I was just..." She searched for the right word, "admiring the ceiling when I blasted a hole through it," Here she smirked and brought one hand up to twirl her hair around a finger, "and I found that it led into a peculiar attic-like room, and well, I was wondering," She looked him deep into the eyes, "would you like to come and explore it with me?" Finally, now they were getting somewhere! Time to explore the mysteries of the Slytherin dungeons.

Brick smiled lightly, he couldn't say anything to that. Hadn't he just been thinking how well Nemesis knew him? She was definetly his oldest friend, since before Nemesis came into his life, he'd been pretty much on his own. His own family estate had been located in a Muggle villiage, so the only kids around were muggles, and perhaps a few mudbloods? There was no way his mother would have ever allowed him to associate with that lot. So Nemesis had been the only person in his world for years. He certainly didn't make any friends those three years he was bouncing around Britain (more like enemies), so until he got to Hogwarts, his entire friends list equaled Nemesis.
Of course, even now that he had a few frineds, she was still the most important. That wasn't going to change, for anything. He watched her walk around to the other side of the sofa. He noticed she always did that when talking to someone directly, get real close and in your face. You could visably see her taking complete control of everything, she came into your space and dominated your line of sight with those beautiful bright blue eyes of hers. All you could hear was her light voice speaking in that way that was on the surface asking, but on a deeper level telling you to do whatever she wanted. At this distance he could even tell what scents she had put on today, even though she wasn't the type of girl to put on a a whole lot of that mess, plus there was a fragrence she always had, that he thought might just be in her blood. It was the same at Riddle Manor, the scent of deep Dark Magic. That had been his most loved smell by the time he left the Manor after his very first visit.
He thought he knew why she did this usually - to freak out some of their more spineless members. Knowing your weak links was just overall good information. He just always wondered why she did it to him - not that he'd ever want her to stop (he'd probably miss it). But, still, she knew, or well, he hoped he'd shown her, that he wasn't some lackey out for power or glory, or any of those other things offered to the Dark Lord's followers. He wasn't so fickle. He was here for her, and so he never had anything to fear from her. Sure, she had power way beyond his own, but if she ever felt the need to use that power against him, well, he'd have already Crucio'd himself before she even got around to it. But he would never let that happen anyway.
When he asked her if she wanted anything, she confirmed his hopes instantly. Automatically he felt the urge to lean in closer, but instead pulled himself a little straighter since she had done the same. It wasn't that he couldn't be relaxed around Nemesis, quite the opposite actually, but rarely broke form on his own. There were times when she wanted him there as her friend and not her Knight, but then sometimes those swapped round. It didn't matter to him though, he was already both of those things.
Her way of describing her discovery made him smile. He wasn't surprised that she'd cursed a hole in the ceiling, she was far more the tough girl than people might think considering her outer image. And the actual discovery? An attic in the dungeons? Could attics be underground? He could feel his grin returning even while he thought to give a straight-faced answer. It wasn't to be. Instead he ended up beaming at her, his brown eyes sparking with that urge for adventure. "You know there is nothing in this entire world I would rather do." He said, then looked up to the ceiling, though he knew the attic she was talking about was a bit further up than that, "How do you think we could get up there, my Lady? I could blast a hole large enough, but somebody'd probably notice it, yeah? I'm not as good puttin' things back as I am rippin' them apart, you know."

Brick didn't say anything in reply to her own reply. He didn't have anything to say to that? Not that it mattered really, but she would have liked to have known what he was thinking at this present moment in time. Perhaps he was thinking of their childhood, the time they first met as kids, the time they became best friends forever. A very special time in her life came to mind as they smiled at each other, the time he looked after her and cared for her whilst she was in the stage of grieving after the death of her father, when he was murdered by Harry-effing-Potter. At least she knew that he would always be there for her, no matter what terrible or brilliant things happened in their lives. They were best friends and nothing could ever change that!
Nemesis had never seen anyone so excited over such a simple task such as helping her check a stupid attic that probably wouldn't have anything interesting in it anyway. He brought a smile to her face, knowing that he was so devoted to her cause and her beliefs. If she had asked any of the other Dark Knights to do the task, she would bet on the life of her old nanny that none of the others would have been as excited to do her favour like Brick was. This showed just how much he thought of her, just how much he believed in her and what she was doing. His smile matched her own one and she could almost feel how excited he was to be able to do something for her. She was so tempted to lean in and kiss him on the cheek for being such a wonderful friend and servant. Well, she wanted to do more than kiss his cheek, but that's a different matter...
"I knew you'd help me," she said excitedly, and actually leaned up slowly and kissed him gently and lightly on the cheek in thanks. Nemesis then joined him in staring up at the cieling then, not at all embarrassed in the fact that she'd just kissed him... well, kissed his cheek, at least, but still. "Hmm, well, I think that Parseltongue should do, Brick," she answered, and looked back down to stare at him once more. "Think about it, Brick. If Salazar made an attic in the dungeons, a secret room, then there's bound to be a password, and unlike the other founders and headmasters or headmistresses, he was into making more... unique passwords." It sounded logical to her, but what did Brick think? Nemesis decided it was at least worth a shot to try her idea out. And so, she spoke the word 'open' in Parseltongue, and suddenly there was this strange clicking noise and then the sound of slate moving in the direction of the fireplace. What was that?

The blonde-haired teen soon found himself lightly toughing a small section of his cheek. His brain had cranked to a halt for a moment, as he watched Nemesis begin talking about her plans to get up into the attic. She'd changed positions so quickly, he wasn't really completely sure what had happened - well, not really that, he wasn't sure how to react. Usually, it wasn't something he had to think about for too long, or ever, really, he just acted however he felt. That method always worked best for him, but maybe it wasn't as fool proof a plan as he'd always thought. Now, he suddenly had lost the ability to do anything except blink and nod, all because of one tiny kiss.
But, she'd never done that before! Brick found himself way more flustered by it than anything else. For one thing, he wasn't sure what it was for. He supposed, usually, he would assume that she had done it to see his reaction - he was giving a pretty good one now, having suddenly dropped a few IQ points in the last few seconds - but she didn't seem to be paying very much attention. Her blue eyes had left his to look at the ceiling when he had mentioned it, and she was saying something he agreed with only because he knew no matter what she was saying he agreed with it. He really couldn't tell you what she actually said.
Maybe she'd just kissed him for no reason, then? It was hard to think of his Queen not having a well thought out plan for everything she did, but, of course, he was sure she did a few things just in-the-moment. He knew, from seeing, not experience, that girls sometimes kissed boys whom they were friends with. But, were they friends? Not to say that he didn't think of her as one, she was his closest, longest, best friend in that regard and he'd always thought of them as friends - but was that really their true relationship? Their next possible relationship was Master and servant, which, like 'friends' was also true and not true. Yes, she was his Mistress, no doubt about that - and he knew, since he was a tiny little boy, that he was born of a knight, and it was his destiny to always protect this little Dark Lordess he'd met all those years ago.
He couldn't say it was purely business though. He'd seen some of her servant who were like that - they served her because of title, only. Because their parents served the Dark Lord or because of the power behind her, and that was what they were loyal to, not her. They were flighty, which he hated in people, but he soon saw that it seemed common for Lords to need to have that sort of leverage over their serfs to get them to obey. He'd never had that problem, not once. There were a few prospective Death Eaters who had dropped support when their Dark Lord was killed - which was the worse possible time, the damn bastards. He'd actually killed a few of them he'd come face to face with, and he hadn't even been trying. He would have hunted down the lot of them, but it wasn't like he could go gallivanting off when Nemesis was having such a hard time...
So, not just a friend, not just a servant... what did that leave? Whenever he thought about it too hard he'd start to blush a bit, and he wasn't completely sure why. As her weapon and protector, her servant and friend, there wasn't any other position left to fill, was there? He was broken out of his thoughts thankfully by Nemesis speaking Parseltongue. He couldn't understand, of course, but it was such a beautiful sound. Her light voice made the hiss-like language sound harmonic.
Then, suddenly before their eyes, the fireplace began to move and shift. There were snakes carved onto the mantel that slithered aside to allow a small passage to open up. Inside was a spiral staircase, leading up. It was a tight fit, but it sure looked like the way up. The sudden action served to knock the wistfulness right out of the hot-blooded Slytherin. Worrying or philosophizing over things wasn't really his strong suit. He was his Mistress' Knight, and that was what mattered now. He'd figure everything out as he went along, like always. Feeling much better, he felt the large grin he was known for begin to bloom once again on his face. "Your instincts are as perfect as always, my Queen." He said, drawing his wand and looking enthusiastically towards the revealed passageway. "Ready, at your command."
